This is the beginning of a weekly blog series that I will be posting here to Travel Continuously. I’m starting this because I want to give you more of an insight into my life, share more of my thoughts and feelings as I travel the world.
An editted video can give you one perspective but you’re often not getting the full story. That’s not to say I would deliberately hide anything, but some things are harder to capture on film than they are to put into writing. Equally, some things are better shown through video than they are on a blog. That’s why I want to start this weekly blog, to compliment my YouTube channel and to give you a further insight into what it’s like to travel the world continuously. So let’s jump into it.
5 Days in Banyuwangi, East Java
I’ve just arrived back to Bali after a 5 day trip to Banyuwangi in East Java. I was invited there by the Illira Hotel over 2 years ago and it’s just now that the dates have lined up and I was able to work with them. Honestly, the trip was fantastic. The itinerary they put together was perfect and I really can’t wait to start editing this video and get it out there.
Banyuwangi is a place that I feel will have an explosion of tourism in the years to come. After all, it’s only a 20 minute ferry ride from Bali and boasts some of the most spectacular natural scenery I’ve seen in Indonesia, including the incredibly epic Kawah Ijen volcano which I’m so glad I finally got to see! I’m going to be taking my time on the video and accompanying blog post because I really want to do it justice. No rushing to meet a deadline, just working hard on the edit and making it the best it can be.
It’s funny actually, often when you work with hotels and brands they can be overdemanding in terms of deadlines. They will often want the completed video within a couple of weeks of the trip and in some cases I have even been asked to finish the video during my stay (I declined). The best content though comes from taking the time to create the video that you feel is your best work and that doesn’t come about when you’re rushed. Luckily, Illira hotel have given me no deadline and have just asked that I create the best piece I can to highlight Banyuwangi as a tourist destination.
Over the next weeks I have a few travel plans coming up, including a trip to East Timor which will be a new country for me! I can’t wait for that as I’ve been wanting to get there for a while and finally found the time. Until then though, I’ll be working away here in Canggu to catch up on editing, emails and all the less exciting stuff that doesn’t normally make it into my videos.
So with that in mind, time to get back to work!
